From the crew / Off-grid solar

An off-grid battery bank.

On this job, our crew installed a stack of nine battery modules and a pair of 6 kW inverters. When there’s no mains supply, two questions shape a build like this. What has to start together? What still needs power by morning?

6 kW is the power rating of each inverter. Stored energy is measured in kWh.

Planning an off-grid system

What needs to run at your place?

01

When things start together

Think of a pressure pump starting while someone boils the kettle. The equipment that runs at the same time helps us work out how much power the inverters need to deliver.

02

What stays on overnight

A fridge, water pump and internet gear draw on the battery after dark. Tell us what stays on, roughly how long it runs and what you could switch off after a few cloudy days.

03

A winter week

For an Otago site, winter shade and shorter days matter. We look at where the panels can go, how the property is used through winter and whether there’s a generator to include in the plan.

Planning power beyond the grid?

Tell us the nearest town, whether anyone lives there year-round and what equipment you want to run. A handwritten list is enough to start.
